What if our memories and collective knowledge were recorded, rewound, then re-recorded on to mouldy VHS tape? Legend Extension II offers space to consider contagious non-conscious mimicry, slanted personal history, misinterpretation and to excavate anecdotal facts—skewed as they are repeated time and time again. With crude 3D animation and archival footage featuring the artist’s aunty, at times we find ourselves inside the dark recesses of a video tape cassette, as if exploring the corners of a pixelated 64-bit computer game.

Legend Extension II takes its title from a piece of music featured on the soundtrack to the ITV documentary series ‘The Dragon Has Two Tongues’ (1985) Two perspectives of Welsh history are presented in this thirteen-part series, one from Marxist and Socialist professor Gwyn Alf Williams, the other, a more romantic view from Oxford educated Wynford Vaughan-Thomas. The work is intended to allow room to consider a blurred nostalgia—mundane misinterpretations, wrong translations and internal space. Class, micro and macro voids, a stomach. Breathing; ritualistic repetitions and faux mysticism.

>> Killing TV at Tai Kwun Contemporary investigates how contemporary artists deploy, disrupt, and deconstruct television as medium and practice from the 1970s to the present day. Bringing together fifteen artists from across cultural and historical contexts, this group exhibition explores the interaction between contemporary art and television—in particular how artists have reflected on and challenged television’s pervasive power on culture as a whole.
